About Optika CIC

A place for every kind of creative

Optika Film Studios is developing an inclusive community filmmaking hub in Blackpool and Lancashire. Our aim is to bring people together to discover their talents, share skills and tell stories through film and the wider creative arts.

You do not need qualifications or previous filmmaking experience to get involved. Curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to work with others are a starting point.

Who we welcome

Our ambition is to welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. This includes young people, those outside education or employment, unemployed and under-employed adults, neurodivergent people, disabled people, people rebuilding their lives, experienced creatives and anyone looking for a new direction.

We also welcome community organisations, Lancashire residents and visitors who would like to contribute to our creative community.

Every skill has a place

Filmmaking is a team effort. Writers, performers, costume makers, builders, hair and make-up artists, musicians, organisers and technicians all help bring a story to life.

Our 26 filmmaking subjects explore the journey from script writing and storyboarding through production, sound, design and effects to editing, music, colour grading and reaching an audience.

Learning through making

We want to develop practical workshops and collaborative projects where people can try different roles, learn from one another and build confidence through experience.

Suggested workshops on this website describe our proposed programme. Dates, venues and participation arrangements will be shared when confirmed.

Our community purpose

As a Community Interest Company, our purpose is to create opportunities that benefit the community. We aim to support creative expression, reduce isolation, strengthen connections and help people develop skills for further learning, employment or independent creative work.

An accessible creative home

Our plans include an accessible space for filming, rehearsal, costume and prop making, sound work and community radio. The proposed facilities and programme remain in development.

We recognise that access needs vary. Please contact us to discuss what would help you take part; you do not need to share sensitive personal information through a public form.

Help shape the studio

Whether you want to learn, volunteer, collaborate or support our development, we would like to hear from you. Register your interest and tell us what you would like to be part of.
